Brendan Rodgers admits Celtic WOULD like to sign Kieran Tierney this month, after confirming the left back has penned a pre-contract agreement with the Parkhead club.

The former Hoops hero will return to Glasgow in the summer, at the latest, after sealing a deal to leave Arsenal at the expiry of his contract.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Aston Villa, the Celtic manager confirmed the return of the Scotland international.

Brendan Rodgers said: “Ideally it would be [this month] but at this moment he’s still an Arsenal player.

“We are agreed it will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand then great. We prepared that for the summer.

“I don’t want to speak to much on it with the greatest respect because he’s not a Celtic player here just now with us.

“But if we were able to do it then of course we would like to do that. That’s out of our control at this moment in time.”

The Hoops boss went on to confirm on loan Barcelona left back Alex Valle has had his loan deal cut short.

He said: “Alex Valle won’t play again sadly. He’s in Barcelona the moment and he will probably then move onto another team.

Another young player that’s contributed really well for us.

“He has made nearly 20 appearances for us. He’s played in some very important games. He made his Champions League debut.

“Especially away at Atalanta he was fantastic. We are disappointed that he’s left but we have to move on.”
