Bayer Leverkusen have signed centre-back Mario Hermoso on loan from Roma until the end of the season.
Hermoso has struggled for opportunities since he moved to Italy last summer and found himself out of favour under Roma’s interim boss Claudio Ranieri.
Bundesliga champions Leverkusen offered Hermoso a route out of Rome and the Spanish defender is excited to get to work under Xabi Alonso.
“I’m very much looking forward to aiming to achieve big targets with the Werkself. Everything is set up here for a successful season on the pitch,” Hermoso told the official club website.
Simon Rolfes, the club’s sporting managing director, added: “Mario Hermoso is an experienced player on the international stage and, in addition to playing as a central defender, he is a very capable and organised left-back.
“Mario will also bring additional versatility to our defence and will compensate very well for the absence of Jeanuel Belocian.”
