Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is set to miss a crucial period of his side’s season after sustaining a hamstring injury in Saturday’s shock LaLiga defeat at Espanyol.
Real confirmed the injury to his right leg in a short statement on Sunday morning, which reports in Spain suggest will keep him out for up to three weeks.
That means Rudiger would miss next week’s Madrid derby against Atletico, and the first leg of the Champions League clash with Manchester City three days later, with the return match taking place the week after.
The news could hardly come at a worse time for Real boss Carlo Ancelotti with Eder Militao still sidelined and David Alaba only just returning from a knee injury.
Ancelotti has already been forced to use French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni at the back this season in order to shore up his defensive options.
