Harry Kane got on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich came from behind to claim an important 3-1 victory over 10-man Augsburg in the race for the Bundesliga.

Dimitris Giannoulis opened the scoring in the first half as Bayern’s hopes of claiming back-to-back wins following last week’s victory over St Pauli were dented.

However, Augsburg’s advantage was short-lived with the talented Jamal Musiala levelling his best goal tally for a Bundesliga season with his 12th of the campaign for the visitors.

After Cedric Zesiger was shown a red, Michael Olise combined with England skipper Kane to put Bayern in front before Chrislain Matsima’s own-goal in stoppage-time confirmed their victory.

The three points sees Vincent Kompany’s men move nine points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, with Xabi Alonso’s side playing struggling Heidenheim on Saturday.

Friday’s victory for Bayern came after they were caught napping in the 30th minute. A dinked free-kick surprised Bayern’s defenders, with Konrad Laimer failing to pick Giannoulis up before the left-back cut inside and fired the hosts ahead.

The visitors’ firepower paid dividends in the 42nd minute with the pacey Leroy Sane at the heart of Musiala’s leveller. The former Manchester City man marauded down the left and cut the ball across the box to Musiala, who controlled, turned and blasted the ball high into the net.

Germany international Musiala’s night was cut short later on, however, by a suspected hamstring injury, with Kompany forced to substitute him.

After Zesiger’s sliding tackle on Kane saw him shown a second yellow card, the England international forward punished Augsburg two minutes later on the hour mark as the visitors made use of the extra man.

France international Olise, who played on the right, cut inside and whipped a ball towards the back post and Kane, who had held his run, nodded home from inside the six-yard box for his 23rd goal of the league campaign.

Matsima’s own-goal in the final minutes confirmed Bayern’s 3-1 win.
