Real forward Kylian Mbappe will serve a one-match suspension for his reckless challenge on Antonio Blanco in Sunday’s LaLiga victory at Alaves.

The France striker was shown a straight red card after the referee reviewed his 38th-minute clash with Blanco on the pitchside monitor following consultation with the VAR.

There had been suggestions the 26-year-old could face an extended ban but it has now been confirmed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) he will miss only next Sunday’s clash with Athletic Bilbao.

A communication from the RFEF referred to a “one-match suspension for a violent incident”.

Real held on without Mbappe to win the match 1-0 thanks to an Eduardo Camavinga goal, though Alaves also played the last 20 minutes with 10 men.

The domestic ban has no impact on his availability for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal in which Real will seek to overturn a 3-0 aggregate deficit at the Bernabeu Stadium.
