Manchester United have completed the deadline-day signing of highly-rated Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, having moved on big-money flops Rasmus Hojlund, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Ruben Amorim’s side have undergone a summer rebuild on the back of the Red Devils’ worst top-flight season in 51 years and damaging Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

United signed attackers Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko for what could end up being a combined £207.2million and have now upgraded their goalkeeping department.

A variety of options were considered, including Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, before a 21m euros (£18.2m) plus add-ons deadline-day deal for Antwerp shot-stopper Lammens was finalised.

“I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United, it is a real dream come true,” the 23-year-old said after signing a deal until 2030 at Old Trafford.

“The past few years have been an amazing journey, it’s now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special.

“You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years. I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff.

“This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.”

Director of football Jason Wilcox said: “Senne is an excellent young goalkeeper with great potential; we are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United after significant interest from a number of clubs.”

Quite what Lammens’ arrival means for unconvincing goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir remains to be seen after a deadline day that saw three high-profile players leave United.

Misfiring frontman Hojlund, 22, has joined Napoli on a season-long loan two years after arriving at Old Trafford from Atalanta for £64m plus a potential £8m in add-ons.

The loan fee is understood to be worth 6m euros (£5.2m), with a 44m euros (£38m) obligation to buy coming into effect if Antonio Conte’s side qualify for the Champions League.

Two members of the five-strong ‘bomb squad’ followed Hojlund out of the Old Trafford exit door as outcasts Antony and Sancho finally left.

The former is United’s second-most expensive signing of all-time having joined from Ajax in 2022 for an initial 95m euros (£82.1m) plus a potential 5m euros (£4.3m) in add-ons.

Antony ended last season on loan at Real Betis, where he has now returned on a permanent basis after protracted talks.

PA understands the Brazil international moves for up to 25m euros (£21.6m) on a deal until 2030, with United holding a 50 per cent sell-on clause.

Sancho has also left United on a season-long loan to Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old has failed to meet expectations since making a £73m move to Old Trafford in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund, where he returned for the end of the 2023-24 season.

Sancho spent last term on loan at Chelsea, who paid £5m to get out of their deal to sign him for £25m, and he has now joined Villa who PA understands will cover 80 per cent of the winger’s wages.

Tyrell Malacia is the only member of the ‘bomb squad’ still at United, who previously loaned Marcus Rashford to Barcelona with an option to buy and sold Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for £40m. Kobbie Mainoo’s request to leave on loan was rebuffed last week.

Cub sources indicate midfield was not a priority this summer but the Red Devils did speak to Brighton about a potential move for Carlos Baleba.

United also added teenagers Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik during the window, and return to action after the international break at Manchester City.
