St Johnstone landed an important blow in the Scottish Championship title race by dispatching Raith Rovers 2-0 at Stark’s Park.

At the start of the day the rivals were level on 10 points but the battle between first and second delivered a decisive victory for Saints, who are now three points clear at the top of the table.

Adama Sidibeh opened the scoring on the half-hour mark but the result was not sealed until Josh McPake added the second, with two minutes of normal time left.

Arbroath’s title aspirations took a mauling after they were thumped 5-0 at home by Dunfermline Athletic.

The Red Lichties also entered the weekend on 10 points, only to get taken apart with Andrew Tod Junior firing a hat-trick for the visitors, who also netted through Zak Rudden and Rory MacLeod.

Jay Henderson was on target in the 50th minute to secure a valuable point for Ross County against Ayr in a battle between two struggling sides at Somerset Park.

The match was just two minutes old when Ethan Walker gave the home team the lead but Henderson struck to secure a 1-1 draw.

The game between Queen’s Park and Greenock Morton at the City Stadium ended goalless.
