Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is facing a spell on the sidelines with a sprained left knee.
The 27-year-old looks set to miss the Spanish Super Cup, which takes place in Saudi Arabia from January 7-11, with L’Equipe reporting he will be out of action for “at least three weeks”.
The French sports daily says Mbappe has been playing through the discomfort in recent weeks, so underwent at MRI on Wednesday morning and was diagnosed with the ligament lesion which requires treatment and rest.

As well as the Super Cup, Mbappe is also likely to miss LaLiga matches against Real Betis (January 4), Levante (January 17) and the Champions League clash with Monaco (January 20).
“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid medical services on our player Kylian Mbappe, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee,” a club statement read. “His progress will be monitored.”
The France captain is the leading scorer in the Spanish top flight this term with 18 goals for Xabi Alonso’s team, who sit second in the standings behind rivals Barcelona at the winter break.
