Rangers cranked up the pressure on Celtic with a confortable win over Livingston that gives them the chance to move joint top of the Premiership this week – and with a game in hand.
The atmosphere was turned up a notch around the stands of Ibrox as news of the result at Pittodrie was confirmed.
Celtic’s draw with the Dons allows Philippe Clements men to close in on the champions and with a win on Tuesday night against Aberdeen, the light blues would find themselves level on points with Brendan Rodgers’ side having played a game fewer.
The hosts fed off the electricity around the stadium from the first whistle as they threatened the Livingston goal relentlessly.
James Taverniers curling effort from the corner flag almost saw Rangers go in front but Shamal George was quick to react, punching the defenders strike clear.
Fabio Silva eventually got the opener from close range – making it his first in a Rangers jersey.
Jamie Brandon looked to be dealing with Rabbi Matondo fairly well but in added time the 22 year old curled the ball into thee back of the net, doubling his side’s lead before the break.
The third of the afternoon came from Todd Cantwell after McCausland fed the ball to the former Norwich man on the 55th minute which saw him extend Rangers’ lead.
Livingston didn’t offer anything that caused Rangers any sort of trouble today. They’ll have to dust themselves down ahead of their visit to Rugby Park to take on fourth place Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.
