Rangers go five points clear at the top of the Premiership table after netting five goals this afternoon against Hearts.
The home support were on their feet from the moment both teams emerged from the tunnel to warm up and they weren’t given the chance to sit down. Mohammad Diomande had the ball in the back of the net with a low strike past Zander Clark giving his side an early lead within the opening minute.
Hearts looked unsettled by the aggressive start from Rangers and the deafening noise that surrounded the stadium.
James Tavernier’s volley from outside the penalty area looked certain to burst the net but Zander Clark palmed the skipper’s effort behind.
Yilmaz’s effort from 18 yards was blocked by Clark but not put to safety. The ball bounced off the Hearts keeper and into the path of Cyriel Dessers who was loitering just a few feet from the goal mouth.
The striker scrambled and had more than one pop at goal. Clark continued to deny the front man and somehow the Hearts number one managed to retrieve the ball to his chest. How Dessers didn’t double Rangers’ lead was a miracle.
Oscar Cortes doubles Rangers’ lead after Tom Lawrence looked to square the ball to Cyriel Dessers but Cortes was able to capitalise on the striker’s mistimed run and double his side’s lead.
Before the half time whistle John Soutter’s diagonal cross found Cyriel Dessers at the far post unmarked who was able to side foot it into the back of the net.
Just two minutes into the second half and Cyriel Dessers hit the roof of the net getting the fourth of the afternoon.
Fabio Silva came off the bench in the second half and got his name on the score sheet 10 minutes later after John Lundstram played the ball through to the striker.
Philippe Clement’s side now look ahead to a trip to Rugby Park midweek, whereas Hearts aim to tick off their second derby win of the season.
