With the end of the January transfer window fast approaching, let’s take a look back at some of the most memorable January deadline day signings in recent Scottish football history.
El Hadji Diouf
The Senegalese international joined Rangers on loan from Blackburn Rovers on the final day of the window in 2011. He won a league and cup double in his short spell at Ibrox but is mainly remembered for Old Firms duels with Celtic skipper Scott Brown.
Leigh Griffiths
Celtic signed Griffiths from Wolves on deadline day in 2014. He went on to win a whopping 14 trophies for the Hoops, scoring 123 goals in the process.
Steven Davis
The now Ibrox hall-of-famer arrived in Glasgow for the first time in January 2008 on an initial loan deal from Fulham. He went on to play 370 times for the Light Blues and won 10 trophies across 2 spells.
Craig Bellamy
Bellamy was only at Celtic for 5 months, but he is remembered fondly by the fans. The Welshman scored one of the league’s best ever hattricks against Dundee United and won the Scottish Cup in his final game for the club.
Barry Ferguson
Rangers hero Barry Ferguson returned to Ibrox for a second spell on the final day of the window in 2005. He went on to win 6 further trophies at Rangers and captained the side to the UEFA Cup final in 2008.
