A double from Lawrence Shankland helped Hearts to come from behind twice to beat Dundee 3-2 at Dens Park in the cinch Premiership this afternoon.
Jordan McGhee put the Dark Blues in front in the 26th minute before Alan Forrest levelled the game 10 minutes after restart.
Lyall Cameron’s terrific strike from the edge of the area regained the lead for the hosts four minutes later but the Jambos equalised again when Lawrence Shankland converted from the penalty spot with 11 minutes left to play.
The Scottish international then bagged his second of the match and his 21st of the season with just three minutes to go to win the game for the Jambos.
Hearts are now unbeaten in nine matches; winning eight of those in the process.
Steven Naismith was delighted with striker Lawrence Shankland’s performance after an intense month of speculation linking him with a move away from the club during the January transfer window. He said:
“I’m pleased. He’s a top striker.
“He’s somebody we know who is really important, that’s why we want to tie him to a longer contract. That’s why we want him to be here as long as possible.
“Big bit of pressure on his penalty but again he shows his quality.
“Overall, the performance of the group was brilliant and that’s all we can ask.”
Dundee manager Tony Docherty was outraged by the ‘galling’ decision to award a penalty to Hearts at 2-1 for a handball against Lee Ashcroft. He said:
“What are you meant to do there? And I seen the one against Hibs today as well.
“Are you meant to cut off a body part? What are you meant to do there when you’re a yard away from the player?
“Yeah, I do think it needs to be looked at (the handball rule). I don’t understand the rule to be totally honest and I don’t think a lot of players do.”
