Stephen Robinson’s side were one of three Premiership sides battling it out for the signature former Motherwell striker Kevin Van Veen but the Dutchman has committed his short term future to Kilmarnock until the end of the season.
The striker hasn’t played sine the end of November but left Scotland after netting 29 goals for the Fir Park outfit in his final season. For his goal scoring prowess, he earned himself a nomination for PFA Scotland Player of the Year.
The Rugby Park outfit are the most successful at the moment sitting fourth in the Premiership table and with European football in their sights, the former Groningen man would have been brave to turn it away.
Speaking in his press conference this week, St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson said that Van Veen was a late target for the buddies.
Despite narrowly missing out on the goalscorer, the Northern Irishman is happy with his squad for the time being.
“I think that everyone was looking at Kevin in Scotland, when that became available that was something that we had to look at as a club said Robinson.
“As I said, nothing came of it, we were quite happy with the business we had already done.
“I was a case of seeing what was out there, was there anything that could improve us and as I said nothing came to fruition.
“So were were happy with what we had, so we turned our phones of nice and early.”
