Deila: Celtic not out for revenge

Celtic boss Ronny Deila insists his side are not out for revenge after their going over in Molde.

The Hoops were soundly beaten 3-1 in Norway to leave their faint Europa League hopes hanging by a thread in Group A.

However, Celtic’s response to the setback has been resounding, with three straight wins over Dundee United, Aberdeen and Hearts taking them six points clear at the Scottish Premiership summit and into the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are next up for the Scottish champions at Celtic Park on Thursday, and Deila has urged his side not to look on this as a revenge mission but to play to the standards which are expected at the club.

“I don’t think revenge is a good word. We want to step up and show everybody what we are capable of doing,” he said.

“We have done that the whole week and we need to keep on and get the best out of ourselves on the pitch.

“I’m very pleased with how the boys have dealt with everything.

“I think we have shown many times that after a bad result we have bounced back and we stay together and go in the same direction.

“Three performances after Molde have been very good, we’ve scored a lot of goals and also defensively we’ve been much better.

“You always have good times and bad times individually and as a team.

“It’s my job to turn that negative energy into positive. Now we have to have some good performances.”

Celtic sit fourth in the group with two points from three games as draws against Ajax and Fenerbahce preceded the defeat to Molde.

And Deila believes anything other than a win at home will make life very difficult to qualify for the last-32.

“I think it’s going to be important to win this game. It can happen with a draw as well but it will put us in a much better position if we win.

“Molde are a very hard working team. They have played together for a long time with also a consistency in culture and style of play. They will try to hurt us on the break and defend very deep and compact.”

Scott Brown is missing for the Hoops and won’t be back until after the international break, while Jozo Simunovic is a doubt with a foot injury.
