Arsenal have parted ways with injury-hit defender Takehiro Tomiyasu following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.

Tomiyasu played just six minutes last season and is set to be sidelined until the end of the year as he recovers from a knee operation in February.

The 26-year-old Japan international had another season to run on his deal at the Emirates.

However, Arsenal have confirmed he has now left the club following 84 appearances for them across the last four years.

Tomiyasu, who joined from Bologna in 2021, becomes the second defender to head for the Arsenal exit this summer after Kieran Tierney joined Celtic.

There are also doubts over Oleksandr Zinchenko’s future at the club, while midfielder Thomas Partey is a free agent after his contract expired on June 30. Jorginho joined Brazilian club Flamengo when his deal at the Emirates came to an end last month.
