A quiet January transfer window has nevertheless included a series of eye-catching deals for Premier League clubs.

Marcus Rashford’s exit from Manchester United, albeit on a temporary basis for now, drew a line under an intensely difficult period in his career, while underperforming champions Manchester City and Tottenham have been active, as have Aston Villa.

Here, the PA news agency takes a look at five of the month’s most significant deals.

Marcus Rashford

Perhaps the most intriguing move of the winter window was England striker Rashford’s loan switch from Manchester United to Aston Villa. Discarded by United boss Ruben Amorim, 27-year-old Rashford did not look to have a short-term future at Old Trafford and the chance to rekindle his career under Unai Emery could pay benefits for both he and Villa, who have also used the £71million proceeds of Jhon Duran’s departure to Al-Nassr to recruit Netherlands international Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.

Omar Marmoush

Manchester City also looked to Germany as Pep Guardiola attempted to boost his attacking resources with a £59m swoop for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Egypt forward Marmoush. The 25-year-old has started Premier League games against Chelsea and Arsenal, but is yet to open his account.

Abdukodir Khusanov

Uzbekistan defender Khusanov did not enjoy the most promising of starts in English football when he gifted a goal to Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and picked up a booking inside the opening four minutes of his debut. However, Manchester City have high hopes for the 20-year-old, having paid Lens £33.8m after beating Newcastle among others to his signature.

Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United invested an initial £25.1m to bring Denmark international defender Dorgu to Old Trafford from Serie A side Lecce. The 20-year-old is being viewed as a longer-term solution to United’s issues at left-wing-back, where Luke Shaw’s injury problems have continued to be an issue.

Kevin Danso

Tottenham’s capture of Austria international Danso on loan with an obligation to buy from Lens for a reported fee of around £21m in the summer represents a homecoming of sorts. The 26-year-old defender was born in Austria to Ghanaian parents, but moved to England as a six-year-old and played youth football for Reading and MK Dons before launching his professional career, which includes a loan spell at Southampton, with Augsburg in Germany.
