Liverpool have agreed a £35million fee with Crystal Palace for England centre-back Marc Guehi, the PA news agency understands.
Arrangements are now being made for the player to undergo a medical ahead of a potential deadline-day move to Anfield.
The Premier League champions have been linked with the Palace captain throughout the summer as manager Arne Slot looks to strengthen the back line for the Reds’ title defence.

His arrival could come on the same day Liverpool also complete a £125million deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, capping an extraordinary summer transfer window.
Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong are among those to have already signed since the end of last season in a summer outlay set to break the £450m barrier.
The Eagles were thought to be holding out for £40million for Guehi but with the 25-year-old in the final year of his contract, the club have accepted Liverpool’s offer.
Guehi capped what appears to have been his final game for Palace with a stunning goal in a 3-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on Sunday.
A successful pursuit of Guehi would leave Liverpool with five centre-backs following the arrival earlier this month of 18-year-old Parma defender Giovanni Leoni.
That could give them the flexibility to allow the club’s longest-serving player Joe Gomez, who has been of interest to AC Milan, to leave.

Another potential departure is that of midfielder Harvey Elliott, who has been given permission to discuss terms over a possible loan to Villa.
The £40million-rated England Under-21 international has been a long-term target for RB Leipzig but the midlands side now appear to be in pole position after declaring their interest.
Liverpool have already brought in more than £200m in sales this summer following the departures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Tyler Morton, Ben Gannon-Doak and Nat Phillips.
