Pep Guardiola brings up 1,000 games in management when Manchester City take on Liverpool on Sunday.

999 and counting
Guardiola has won a remarkable 715 out of 999 games, with Barcelona – and their fourth-tier B team – Bayern Munich and City, ahead of Sunday’s landmark outing.
He won 28 out of 42 with Barca B and has had a win ratio higher than 70 per cent with all three of his top-tier clubs.
Stepping up to manage the senior squad at the Nou Camp, he won 179 games out of 247 over four seasons (72.5 per cent) with 47 draws and only 21 defeats, the latter figure representing just 8.5 per cent of his games in charge.
Three seasons in Germany saw Bayern post, if anything, an even more dominant record with 121 wins out of 161 (75.2 per cent).
City account for over half his games as a manager, 549 before Sunday, and while they have been challenged more strenuously by the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, Guardiola has 387 wins (70.5 per cent).
His overall record reads won 715, drawn 156, lost 128. His teams have scored 2,442 goals and conceded 813.
Trophy cabinet
Guardiola won the treble of LaLiga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey in a stunning first year as Barcelona head coach.
His side were league champions in each of his first three seasons, adding another Champions League title in the third and winning both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA’s Club World Cup after each of their continental successes.
His fourth and final year at the helm brought another Copa del Rey, his 11th major trophy with the club.
He won the Bundesliga in all three seasons with Bayern, adding two DFB-Pokals as well as a UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup – Bayern having won the 2012-13 Champions League under his predecessor Jupp Heynckes.
He has won the Premier League in six of his nine completed seasons with Manchester City, with two FA Cups and four League Cups.
Guardiola also brought the club their first Champions League title as part of a treble in 2022-23, allowing him to add a further Super Cup and Club World Cup and bring his tally to 33 major trophies.
‘Indelible impact’
Sir Alex Ferguson, who won 26 major trophies across the city with Manchester United, led the tributes to Guardiola ahead of his 1,000th game.
“Pep! I am absolutely delighted to welcome you to join the prestigious LMA Hall of Fame 1,000 Club,” he said in a statement released by the League Managers’ Association.
“Your deep love and passion for the game has always been so evident and you should be very proud of the indelible impact you continue to have across the global game.”
LMA chief executive Richard Bevan said Guardiola’s “achievements and success in Spain, Germany, and England are unprecedented, and his influence continues to shape the game for future generations”.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, formerly Guardiola’s assistant at City, added: “What a number, what a career, what an inspiration. He’s been probably the most important person in my football career and I’m incredibly proud of what he’s done.”
