Alexander Isak’s wish was finally granted after his transfer deadline-day move to Liverpool for a British record fee and several other high-profile deals were confirmed after the 7pm deadline.
Premier League clubs spent a record £3billion on new players during this year’s summer window, surpassing the previous highest outlay of £2.36bn in 2023, according to Deloitte.
Here, the PA news agency looks at the five best deadline-day deals after some frantic late scrambling by the top-flight clubs.
Alexander Isak – Newcastle to Liverpool, £125m

The saga over Isak’s future has been resolved at last after Liverpool paid Newcastle a British record fee of £125million for the Sweden striker, taking the Reds’ total expenditure to over £415m this summer – also a record outlay by one club in a single window. Isak has been criticised for the manner in which he has forced through a deal, but his current status is such that Liverpool’s odds to defend their Premier League title have shrunk on his arrival.
Senne Lammens – Royal Antwerp to Manchester United, £18.2m
A warm United welcome to our new goalkeeper: Senne Lammens! 🧤🇧🇪

Manchester United opted to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in a bid to eradicate the goalkeeping blunders that have undermined them under Ruben Amorim. Both Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have made howlers this season and United, who had been linked with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, will be hoping Lammens, 23, can continue his rise at Old Trafford after being touted as Belgium number one Thibault Courtois’ long-term successor.
Yoane Wissa – Brentford to Newcastle, £55m

Newcastle signed Nick Woltemade for a club record £65m on Saturday in a bid to fill Isak’s boots and further strengthened their attack after Brentford accepted an improved £55m bid for Yoan Wissa. The 28-year-old DR Congo forward had accused the Bees of “standing in his way” in a similar fall-out to that between Isak and Newcastle, while his departure is another blow following Bryan Mbeumo’s exit to Old Trafford earlier this summer.
Randal Kolo Muani – Paris St Germain to Tottenham, loan

Tottenham pulled off a surprise deal to land France striker Randal Kolo Muani on a season-long loan from Paris St Germain. The 26-year-old ended last season on loan at Juventus and his arrival will give Spurs fans a big lift after their club missed out on Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White earlier in the window. It also further boosts boss Thomas Frank’s offensive options following the earlier signings of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons.
Gianluigi Donnarumma – Paris St Germain to Man City, £25.9m

Manchester City have landed one of the world’s best goalkeepers after completing a £25.9m deal with Paris St Germain for Donnarumma. The Italy number one, 26, who thwarted England in the Euro 2020 final, fell out of favour with PSG head coach Luis Enrique but is likely to become Pep Guardiola’s first choice despite the arrival earlier this summer of James Trafford from Burnley. Ederson is set to depart for Fenerbahce.
