Celtic, Anthony Stokes

Feruz and Anier to make way for Stokes at Hibs?

Hibernian strikers Henri Anier and Islam Feruz look set to leave Easter Road which could pave the way for the return of Celtic striker Anthony Stokes on loan.

Anier has played just 33 minutes for Hibs this season and will return to his parent club Dundee United, while Feruz has also struggled to force his way into the first team and is on his way back to Chelsea, according to reports.

Hibs remain in talks with Stokes over a possible loan deal from Celtic.

On Thursday Dundee United had revealed they had agreed a deal with Celtic to bring the striker to Tannadice until the summer but it remains down to Stokes where he will end up.

United boss Mixu Paatelainen told BBC Sport: “We have made an approach to Celtic and spoken to the player, but I don’t how things will pan out.

“It’s up to the player to decide. He’s got loads of options.”

Inverness CT boss John Hughes was also very keen on the striker’s services but has ultimately accepted defeat in the race for the forward.

Stokes has scored 76 goals in 192 appearances for Celtic but has barely registered an appearance this season for the Hoops.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer and will be desperate to get games under his belt in a late push for Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 squad. Stokes was suspended after a Twitter rant over his lack of first-team opportunities in December.
