Celtic target Troost-Ekong as possible Van DIjk replacement

Celtic are reportedly monitoring the progress of Groningen defender William Troost-Ekong with a view to bringing him to Scotland as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

The 21-year-old, who has been on loan at Eredivisie outfit Dordrecht for the last couple of seasons, is out of contract this summer.

The Dutch centre-back would bolster Ronny Deila’s options in defence with Jason Denayer set to return to Manchester City in the summer and highly rated defender Van Dijk – also bought from Groningen – the subject of interest from the Premier League and Europe.

Troost-Ekong joined Groningen in July 2013 having been released by Spurs, and although discussions have taken place about extending his deal, it is believed he would prefer a move back to the UK.
