The 21-year-old, who has been on loan at Eredivisie outfit Dordrecht for the last couple of seasons, is out of contract this summer.
The Dutch centre-back would bolster Ronny Deila’s options in defence with Jason Denayer set to return to Manchester City in the summer and highly rated defender Van Dijk – also bought from Groningen – the subject of interest from the Premier League and Europe.
Troost-Ekong joined Groningen in July 2013 having been released by Spurs, and although discussions have taken place about extending his deal, it is believed he would prefer a move back to the UK.
