Rangers have booked their space at Hampden Park for the semi-finals of the Viaplay Cup after defeating Livingston 4-0 at Ibrox tonight.
Abdallah Sima put the hosts ahead after 10 minutes before a fantastic solo run from Ridvan Yilmaz’s doubled their advantage in the 65th minute.
Luigi de Lucas then scored an own goal to make it 3-0 with 7 minutes to play when his sliding block turned in Abdallah Sima’s attempted cutback.
Ryan Jack topped off a fine evening for the Light Blues in Govan when he stroked the ball into the corner after a well-worked team move.
Rangers controlled the match from start to finish as Livingston failed to threaten Jack Butland in goal.
However, Livingston manager David Martindale was ‘disappointed’ that Abdallah Sima’s opener was allowed to stand as he believed Jamie Brandon was fouled in the build-up. He said:
“I thought it was a foul, yeah. I actually thought Willie (Collum) was going to let the game play on and then I felt he was going to blow the whistle.
“When it went to VAR, I thought, we’ll be alright, we’ll be okay here. Obviously not.
“So, disappointed, because I did think it was a foul, I’ll be honest, I thought it was a foul.”
Rangers manager Michael Beale was pleased with his side’s convincing win tonight after an underwhelming performance at home to Motherwell last weekend. He added:
“It’s four (wins) on the bounce, it’s a clean sheet. I think the difference between today and the weekend is we were much the better team.
“But I don’t know where the rubbish came from that Motherwell were the better team at the weekend. Look at the stats, they weren’t the better team in that football game.
“I was right to say in possession we were poor (on Sunday), we were better tonight, we won the game, now onto the next one.”
