Graham Carey’s second-half strike provided a well-deserved 1-0 win for St Johnstone over Hibernian this afternoon.

The Irishman battered the ball in off the far post in the 57th minute when he was gifted possession by Hibs who failed to play out from their own goal kick.

A Saints goal had been coming as David Marshall had to pull off two excellent saves from two Max Kucheriavyi efforts early in the first half to keep the score level. The Ukrainian youngster also had a first-half header controversially ruled out by VAR for offside.

Academy graduate Fran Franczak made his full debut at the age of 16 this afternoon and he nearly marked the occasion with a goal when his headed effort was tipped wide by Marshall shortly after Carey’s opener.

The visitors never looked like finding an equaliser as Craig Levein’s side controlled the remainder of the match.

St Johnstone move up to ninth in the Scottish Premiership table as Nick Montgomery’s Hibees slip to sixth.
