Kevin Thelwell, Rangers’ new sporting director, has said that the club’s search for a new manager should be complete in the “coming days.’

A consortium of investors led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises established majority ownership at Ibrox on Friday with their immediate job to get a manager in place. Philippe Clement was sacked in February with Barry Ferguson in charge o the club until the end of the season.

Rangers finished the campaign without a trophy and 17 points behind champions Celtic.

Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti are in the driving seat for the position with an announcement imminent.

“While there has been significant work going on in the background prior to my arrival, that naturally accelerates from today, and top of the priority list will be the appointment of a new Head Coach for our men’s first team,” Thelwell told the club website.

“That search has been progressing well, and the club and I look forward to bringing that to a conclusion in the coming days.

“This is a new chapter for Rangers, and while we recognise success won’t come easy, our goal is clear: we need to win.

“My focus is on delivering that, with discipline and ambition. We’ll give everything to move this club forward as quickly and sustainably as we can.”

When announcing his appointment in April, Rangers said Thelwell will “assume overall responsibility for all areas of the football operations, including men’s, women’s and academy”.

The 51-year-old held similar roles at Wolves and New York Red Bulls, and spent three years as director of football at Everton.

On Sunday, it was also revealed Everton’s former head of recruitment Dan Purdy will work alongside Thelwell as technical director with Nils Koppen’s exit confirmed by the club.
