Celtic turned on the style as they blew Dundee United away at Tannadice to formally clinch the title, their fourth successive Championship.
It has been a question of when rather than if as Celtic claimed the Championship, not that it diminished the moment for either Brendan Rodgers or the travelling support.
Rodgers had requested that they crossed the finish line with a sprint, a demand that had come on the back of an insipid display at McDiarmid Park a few weeks back. Since they the response has been absolute; Kilmarnock, St Johnstone and Dundee United have all been blown away as Celtic eye a treble; the Parkhead side have now scored 15 goals across their last three games.
They took just over half an hour to get up and running against a Dundee United side with ambitions themselves of finishing this season strongly.
Jota opened the scoring – before having to go off with what looked like a knee injury – and from there the roof fell in on United.
Nicolas Kuhn, playing with what looked like a point to prove after recent criticism, added a second and third before the break.
Celtic picked up where they left off after the interval with Adam Idah, who had replaced Jota, on to add a fourth and then a fifth as Celtic kept their foot to the floor.
It ensured a party atmosphere for the Hoops support who had travelled to Tannadice to make the most of the occasion.
Not that they were there only for the party; they made their point known, too, with the game interrupted in each half as they criticised ticket prices.
Dozens of tangerines on to the pitch – one of which was eaten by Maeda – in protest at Dundee United’s pricing for the game.
Celtic had raised concerns with the Scottish Professional Football League after United set adult ticket prices at up to £42 for away supporters when it became clear the leaders would clinch the title with a point at Tannadice.
There was similar protest in the second period with dozens of footballs thrown onto the pitch and a banner which read ‘stop pricing fans out of football’ unveiled.
On then pitch, there was little to complain about.
James Forrest was introduced in the second period. The Scotland internationalist is now the most decorated Celt of all time, an accolade that was appreciated by the Celtic support as he made his entrance.
Celtic were slick and clinical as they claimed the Championship with some style. The question now is whether they make it a treble before the end of the season.
