St Johnstone are set to look elsewhere after a move for Larne manager Tiernan Lynch collapsed over personal terms.
A compensation deal had been agreed for Lynch, however the stickler was personal terms for the 44-year-old, his brother and coach Gary Haveron.
St Johnstone could now turn their attention to former Motherwell midfielder Simo Valakari.
Adam Webb spoke to the 51-year-old last week while Scott Brown was also interviewed for the role. Peter Level, too, has been in the mix.
Interim manager Andy Kirk had the sobering task of taking the team for the 6-0 thrashing from Celtic yesterday. It doesn’t get any easier for St Johnstone with Rangers at Ibrox next on the horizon.
“This was always going to be a difficult game for us, the levels between Celtic and us are huge,” said Kirk.
“Hopefully we get can get through this tough spell, and leave the club in a better position for him to take over.”
“The context is the team you’re playing against. You have to hold your hands up and say that they are way ahead of where we are all over the pitch.
“You can see Celtic doing that to a lot of teams this season.”
