Ewan Wilson waited 65 games to score his first professional goal – and didn’t know how to celebrate when it finally arrived.

“I didn’t really have a celebration!” he admitted. “It was just one of those ones where the adrenaline came over me. I just fist pumped I was so happy to get my first goal.”

If Wilson felt a little bashful when his big moment arrived, his support network were not slow to cheer on his behalf.

The left back initially thought his effort was going to be ruled out when he gave his side the lead in a 2-0 win over Aberdeen, but was delighted to tick off another milestone in front of the cameras at Fir Park.

“After it went in I was looking around and no one really celebrated…I was wondering if someone was offside in the build up.

“There’s a lot of people that watch me. My mum’s friends, my dad’s friends and I’m very thankful it was on TV so they all got to see it!”

The 20-year old Motherwell academy graduate did score twice when he dropped out of professional football last year to go on loan to Beith Juniors, but now he’s off the mark at the top tier he wants even more.

Wilson added: “It’s my first at professional level. I got a couple at Beith. People say one was a rocket from the middle of the park the other was inside the six yard box.

“Even just playing first team football is a big achievement for me but especially getting my first goal and hopefully many more.”
