Celtic finally get their man as Adam Idah returns to the club on a permanent transfer from Norwich in a deal reported to be worth £9.5 million with a 15% sell on clause.

Is it good value? I think so. These days, it buys you potential, but the early signs are good with the Republic of Ireland International after scoring 9 goals in 19 appearances on loan at the club last season.

Idah only made seven starts, but the goals and his overall play suggest there’s more to come from the 6ft 3inch striker.

Celtic’s Adam Idah with the Scottish Cup trophy

He certainly fits the blueprint of Celtic signings since 2003. He is 23 years old and will be a sellable asset if he can produce twenty goals plus domestically and chip in with vital goals on the highest stage of the Champions League.

Scoring the winner in the cup final against Rangers left a huge impression on the Celtic fans and only intensified the calls for the club to stump up the cash to bring him back up north on a permanent deal. I’m not sure too many people thought the board would be forced to stump up the figures being quoted in the deal, but with the end of the month fast approaching, each transfer concluded eases a growing unrest among Celtic fans as to how this current board conducts its business.

I still think they need one more striker, a left back, centre half and another midfielder to replace Matt O’Riley when he is finally sold in the last week of the transfer window. If Celtic manage to achieve that, I think you have a happy manager, a happy fan base and a team ready for some kind of improvement in the group stages of Europe’s biggest tournament.
