Storm Desmond wreaked havoc across football grounds up and down the country and he also dealt a huge blow to Alloa’s chances of staying in the Championship.
The game was dour up until the 71st minute when ex-Wasps player Mark Docherty scored straight from a corner, with a little help from the swirling winds.
The Sons put the game beyond doubt three minutes from time when substitute Grant Gallacher nodded home from close range.
The result moves Dumbarton up to 7th in the table and boss Stevie Aitken was delighted.
“We’ve lost games recently that we didn’t deserve to lose but I thought we deserved that today.
“We’ll continue to fight away, we’ll enjoy it but there’s still a long way to go.”
Meanwhile Alloa manager Danny Lennon felt his side were unlucky to lose.
“We’re getting punished for every wee mistake we make at this moment in time.
“We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we have to take our frustration and channel it in a positive way.”
