Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will be sidelined for “quite a long time” after suffering a knee injury, says Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
Courtois sustained the setback in training, with Asmir Begovic coming in to replace the Belgium international.
Mourinho could not confirm the length of injury but is resigned to losing his goalkeeper for some time.
“Courtois was injured in a training session with the goalkeepers,” he said.
“I cannot tell you much, but he needs surgery in his right knee, he will be out for quite a long time, but I cannot be specific as to how long he will be out.
Mourinho added: “It’s not easy to have the best goalkeeper injured, but it’s easy to have one of the best to play, and we have Begovic.
“We have a top goalkeeper and Begovic will play.”
