St Johnstone have tonight appointed Craig Levein as the club’s new first team manager.
The 59-year old has signed a contract until May 2026 and takes over from interim boss Alec Cleland, who secured the Perth side’s first win of the season over Kilmarnock this week, following Steven MacLean’s sacking.
On his appointment, the former Scotland boss said:
“I am delighted to be sitting here as the new St Johnstone manager. I know Geoff Brown, Roddy Grant, Gus MacPherson and Stan Harris well and they were a massive part in why I have joined the club.
“I believe we have a great squad here that can kick on and start to climb up the league. Andy is a great coach and will take on most of the training.
“I can’t wait to get started and look forward to the future here at McDiarmid Park.”
As well as spending three years at the helm of the national side, Levein has had spells in charge of Cowdenbeath, Hearts, Leicester City, Raith Rovers and Dundee United. More recently he has been club advisor at Brechin City for the last two years.
St Johnstone CEO Stan Harris added of the move:
