Dundee United have completed the signing of Wigan striker Billy McKay on a season-long loan.
Reports had suggested that a deal had been struck after United’s offer of £200,000 was accepted but that fell through after the 26-year-old’s severance package could not be agreed.
The attacker will join on a loan deal instead. McKay could go straight into the squad to for United’s trip to face Ross County on Saturday.
The Tangerines have beaten off competition from a number of clubs including Hibernian, Ross County and Inverness CT.
McKay moved to the League One side in January but the former Inverness forward has found first-team opportunities hard to come by.
