Georgia pulled off one of the biggest upsets in European Championship history as they beat Portugal 2-0 to reach the knockout stages of Euro 2024.

Playing in their first major tournament and with a population of four million, the east European nation registered their biggest win as goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze in either half ensured they finished third in Group F.

That saw them qualify for the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams and they will play Spain next.

Portugal’s position as Group F winners was secured with wins in their opening two games and they will now face Slovenia.

Cenk Tosun fired a stoppage-time winner as Turkey reached the first knockout phase after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Czech Republic.

The Czechs had midfielder Antonin Barak controversially sent off midway through the first half in Hamburg, but fought back through Tomas Soucek’s equaliser after Hakan Calhanoglu had given Turkey the lead.

But former Everton striker Tosun, a second-half substitute, eased Turkish nerves with the winner in added time to secure second place and a meeting with Austria in the last 16.

The Czechs’ Tomas Chory was sent off after the final whistle as players from both sides clashed.

Belgium will face France in the last 16 following a 0-0 draw with Ukraine, who crashed out of the tournament.

The Red Devils limped through Group E, finishing second behind Romania, who will play Netherlands.

Romania and Slovakia both qualified after an entertaining 1-1 draw in Frankfurt.

With both sides aware a point would be enough to send them through, Romania midfielder Razvan Marin’s first-half penalty cancelled out Ondrej Duda’s headed opener for Slovakia, who will take on England.
