Greek double for Hearts

Hearts have made it two Greek signings in one day after bringing in centre-back Tasos Avlonitis.

The Edinburgh club earlier signed midfielder Alexandros Tziolis with the pair penning contracts until the end of the season.

Tziolis is a holding midfielder with 62 international caps. The 31-year-old was most recently with PAOK where he made more than 100 appearances and has also played for the likes of Panathinaikos, Racing Santander, Werder Bremen, Monaco and Italian side Siena.

Avlonitis joins from Olympiacos. The 27-year-old has six years of experience in the Greek top flight, having previously played for Kavala and Panionios. The 6ft 3in defender had a spell on loan at Austrian side Sturm Graz last season.

The pair could make their Ladbrokes Premiership debuts against Rangers at Tynecastle on Wednesday night.

Avlonitis could have more chance of playing after John Souttar suffered a serious-looking Achilles injury during Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Celtic Park.
