Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ramped up the pressure on Manchester United counterpart Louis van Gaal, saying he wanted to face the Red Devils in the Europa League last-16.
The two giants of British and European football were paired together for the first time in the competition after victories over Midtjylland and Augsburg respectively.
The Reds face an important set of fixtures starting with Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday before facing City again in the Premier League.
After that it’s a trip to Crystal Palace before the crunch match against United at Anfield on March 10 with the return leg at Old Trafford a week later.
The Reds have lost their last league four encounters between them but United have looked far from convincing under Van gaal this season.
Klopp says he wants to right the wrongs of the last match where they lost 1-0 in January and is relishing the battle.
“It’s great,” he told reporters. “We deserve these games. It’s not easy. I told my staff yesterday that I wanted Manchester United.
“We had a good game [in January] and lost 1-0. It was not what we deserved.
“It gives us the chance to make it better. In this round, there are no easy games. Manchester United? Good.”
