A double from Amadou Bakayoko as well as goals from Zak Rudden and Zach Robinson helped Dundee to 4-0 victory over St Mirren at Dens Park in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.
Bakayoko gave the hosts the lead after 16 minutes when he capitalised on Richard Taylor’s failure to clear from a corner kick before slamming the ball beyond Zach Hemming in goal.
His strike partner Rudden then doubled Dundee’s advantage on the stroke of half-time when he converted from a penalty kick that was awarded for handball against Saints defender Marcus Fraser.
The French striker added his second of the match 12 minutes after the restart when he followed in a rebound from a Zak Rudden shot to make it three.
Substitute Zach Robinson added a fourth and final goal with five minutes to play with a back post tap-in to finish off a wonderful Dundee counter-attack.
This afternoon’s victory lifts Tony Docherty’s side back into the league’s European spots and takes them to within two points of today’s opponents who remain in 3rd.
This result may have surprised some Scottish football fans but not Dundee manager Tony Docherty. He said:
“Listen, it doesn’t surprise me. I think we’ve been showing levels of real quality and I think we picked it off.
“The real pleasing aspect of it for me today was, teams are always talking about us in terms of scoring goals from set plays, we scored two goals from open play today.”
“As well as that, to get all your strikers on the score-sheet and get another clean sheet is particularly pleasing.”
St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson was keen to remind us of what success looks like for the Buddies. He said:
“We haven’t become a bad team overnight, obviously we’ll get criticised for the performance and rightly so.
“I don’t believe in getting too carried away when we were doing really well
“You guys have been the ones saying we are great and we are going to go to Europe. I’ll maintain that we need to stay in the division, that hasn’t changed.
“We’re a good side, we’ve got good players, we’ve got good characters who will respond.
