Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis dismisses rumours over Antonio Conte’s future

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis dismissed speculation over Antonio Conte’s future as “nonsense”, saying he was proud to have the former Italy head coach by his side.

Napoli have failed to score and are winless in their last three games across all competitions and most recently slipped to a 2-0 Serie A reverse against Bologna on Sunday.

Questions have been raised over the future of the former Tottenham and Chelsea manager at the club in recent weeks and Sunday’s loss marked their third league defeat of the season as they sit fourth in the table.

However, De Laurentiis has dismissed those rumours, saying in a statement released on the club website on Monday: “I have read the latest fairytale on the web about Conte resigning.

“I love social media because it is a rapid, modern way of sharing one’s thoughts. However, you should know that not all thoughts are correct and not all thoughts should be shared.

“Conte and I have always had a special understanding which unites us men who use the three Cs that Neapolitans – and not only Neapolitans – are so fond of.

“What I can say to the fans who have read some nonsense is this: I am proud to have by my side – and by the side of Napoli and the players – a real man like Antonio Conte; a man who is capable of devoting every second of his life to his job, with exceptional diligence and dedication.

“That is the best guarantee you can give to a club, to footballers and to demanding fans such as Napoli’s.”

Napoli will aim to turn their form around after the international break when they welcome Atalanta to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
