Ross County’s League Cup-winning hero Alex Schalk has put an end to speculation about his future after signing a new one-year deal, the club have announced.

Schalk, who scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 League Cup final win over Hibernian to give the Staggies their first major piece of silverware, will stay at Dingwall until the summer of 2017 despite being linked with title challengers Aberdeen.

The 23-year-old, formerly of Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles, joined the Highlanders in October and has netted eight goals in 28 games for Jim McIntyre’s side.
