It was the Lawrence Shankland show as Hearts took down Dundee 2-0 at Tynecastle to move off the foot of the Scottish Premiership table.

Despite coming into this one without a goal in 12 games and with a conversion rate of only 2% Shankland was back to his imperious best, bagging a brace as an attacking Hearts side blew away their visitors.

The skipper’s first was vintage centre forward play as he held off his man before reversing a powerful header into the far right corner from a James Penrice cross.

He doubled his tally ten minutes later as the same combination worked to great effect. Penrice’s cross this time parried by Jon McCraken into the path of the forward who bundled home to make it two.

Tony Docherty sprung a surprise by leaving Simon Murray on the bench from the start, but he was introduced at the break as Dunde looked to work their way back into the contest.

It wasn’t to be however as Hearts saw the game out comfortably for only their third win of the campaign, ending a run of five without victory.
