Danny Rohl urged Rangers to be “brave and bold” when the transfer window opens in January.

The Gers boss, whose side leapfrogged Motherwell into third place in the William Hill Premiership with a 1-0 win at Ibrox – Thelo Aasgaard scoring the only goal of the game – is playing a key role in identifying possible new additions to his squad, while others will leave the club.

Rohl said: “I had a good meeting with Andrew (Cavenagh, chairman) this morning.

“We very clear. I think there’s one guideline for me off the pitch, brave and bold decisions.

“I think this is key to how we have to act.

“If you are convinced in the board and in the club then we should go all in and try it and if not then we should say no. I think this is very clear for me.

“It should be not something between maybe or maybe not. It’s a no or a yes, not between, this is what I want to see from myself but also from us as a club, that we are brave enough to make strong decisions.”

Gers keeper Jack Butland and his Well counterpart Calum Ward both made crucial saves before and after Aasgaard scored in the 67th minute to clinch all three points but Rohl noted the several missed chances.

He said: “I’m not looking too much to the data but if you have 28 shots, a lot of big opportunities, three against one, four against one situations, you have to close the game.”

With league leaders Hearts losing 3-2 to Hibernian and second-placed Celtic winning 4-2 at Livingston, Rangers are nine points behind the Jambos with a game in hand, six behind their Old Firm rivals and two ahead of Motherwell.

Well boss Jens Berthel Askou will go to his “grave” with the surprise of not getting a penalty in the second half when Lukas Fadinger went to ground in the box going past Gers defender Emmanuel Fernandez.

Play went on and referee David Dickinson was not asked to look at his pitchside monitor by the VAR.

However, the Dane, who claimed his side enjoyed “some of the best football we’ve played in the season,” said: “Both goalkeepers needed to pull out one hell of a performance to make it a game of just one goal.

“Then there’s something that I will take with me into my grave, not understanding how we don’t get a penalty at the end.

“He clearly tripped Lukas going free on an open goal.

“That is unacceptable and probably another of these where we get an excuse in a couple of weeks.

“But we can’t dwell on it, because in three days we have another big game and we have to get ready to deliver another one of these similar performances.”
