Jens Berthel Askou admitted the point taken from Motherwell’s goalless draw at Falkirk “might prove very important” at the end of the season.

Well remain third in the William Hill Premiership as they extended their unbeaten run to seven games, although they could have had all three points, with Tawanda Maswanhise passing up a glorious chance and Emmanuel Longelo striking a post in a scrappy game.

The visitors faded in the closing stages, but Askou remained upbeat as he praised a strong defensive performance from his side.

“After a hectic few minutes at the start, we got control of the game and started to create some chances,” he said.

“We hit the post but we had to up our game in the second half and we did that from the first second. We had 15-20 minutes where we looked really good and gave ourselves the opportunity to win the game.

“That then gives us the opportunity to look for one good moment. Sometimes we are good enough to convert but today we lacked that sharpness.

“I have not seen the (Maswanhise) chance back because it went quite fast but I think we all had the feeling the goal was coming but it didn’t come.

“I’m extremely happy with the way we defended again. It’s massive for us as a team to produce three clean sheets.

“Remaining unbeaten is extremely important if we want to achieve something this season. These points, even from 0-0 draws, might prove very important in the end.”

Falkirk manager John McGlynn, meanwhile, was pleased to see his own side make it five matches without defeat and admitted he had adapted his team’s style to combat the threat of Motherwell, who have won many plaudits this season with their attractive style of football.

The Falkirk boss changed his entire front-line from the off before making a quadruple change on the hour, and although his side stifled the visitors, they failed to create much in the way of clear-cut chances of their own, with substitute Ethan Williams going closest late on with a fierce effort that flew just wide.

McGlynn said: “I’m delighted with the clean sheet. It’s our third clean sheet in a row, which is great, and it’s what you’ve got to do.

“It gives you a good platform. We had to make changes because we’ve just had a tough game against Rangers and we had another tough game tonight where you’re chasing the ball a lot, but I’m delighted with the effort and the application that the players put in.

“I’m delighted with the 0-0. It was a tactical battle against a team who have been getting compliments, quite rightly, because the way they play is quite pleasing on the eye.

“We were playing against the Harlem Globetrotters and I think we did all right. I think we’ve kept them fairly quiet tonight.

“It was a matter of putting players out tonight to stop them playing and I think we did that.

“It was job done and then we got to the hour mark and we put the guys on who can play our normal game and it didn’t quite materialise, but I’m delighted and so proud of the players for the effort they put in.”
