Stephen Robinson suggested St Mirren will consider appealing the red card shown to Jake Young in the 0-0 draw with Dundee.
Young, who was making his home debut, was sent off after 63 minutes by referee Nick Walsh for catching Brad Halliday on the foot as he stretched for the ball, a decision upheld by VAR.
However, Robinson felt it was a harsh call and said the club would now weigh up whether to make an appeal to the Scottish FA and look to have it overturned.
He said: “For me it’s never a red card. I’m not sure where Jake has to put his foot.
“It’s in his stride. He can’t jump up in the air. If it was a yellow card, nobody in the stadium complains about it. Nobody at Dundee complains about it either.
“You’re hoping for a review and they get it right and pull it back, but sometimes that goes against you as well and it did.
“I’d like to appeal it. It obviously costs money to do that but I would like to think we’d win an appeal. But it’s gone to VAR as well so maybe they’ve seen angles that I haven’t.”
St Mirren have only scored seven league goals at home all season and passed up a good opportunity from Richard King to add to that in the first half.
Robinson said: “We had the best chances in the game. We had a brilliant chance with Richard in the first half that we missed. We had a brilliant chance with Marcus Fraser when there was a scramble.
“We wanted the three points but when you get a decision like that that goes against you, you’ve got to dig in.”
His Dundee counterpart, Steven Pressley, admitted it was a good point for his side but felt some disappointment at not winning.
He said: “Of course you want more. I think the disappointment shows the strides that we’ve made in recent weeks. Equally, you have to give credit to the opposition.
“When they get the player sent off, of course there’s an expectation for us to go on and win the game. St Mirren applied themselves amazingly well and showed an incredible attitude and a desire not to get beaten. They’re in a situation like ourselves, fighting for their lives.
“The feeling we had in the dressing room was that it’s a good point but we’re disappointed we didn’t get three.”
