12 Mar Deila: Cup final defeat worst experience ever
The Norwegian has an opportunity to win his first piece of silverware with Celtic against Dundee United after joining the club last summer from Stromsgodset.
Deila lost one Cup final as a player with Odd Grenland when they were beating 1-0 by Valerenga in 2002 and he’s determined to avoid that feeling of disappointment again.
“It is a huge game. One of our targets before the season and we can achieve it and we are hopefully 90 minutes from a trophy,” he said.
“My demands are high. I really hate losing. I have lost one cup final in my life and that is maybe the worst thing I done.
“I was playing for Odd we lost against Valerenga from Oslo,
“It was the last game of the season and I had one week away from football after that.
“So we will do everything we can to put in a good performance and if Dundee United beat us then it is easy to accept it.
“If we play badly and lose that is the worst thing but I know if we play really good we have the quality to win the game and that is a target.”
It’s been a huge few weeks for the Hoops boss after his taste of the Old Firm derby and being eliminated from the Europa League by Inter in the last-32.
And big games are almost becoming second nature for the Norwegian. “I feel calm. There have been so many big games and the next one comes along,” he continued.
“In this one you can reach one of your goals. I will feel nervous and excited and pain but that’s what you love and hate in football.
“We have to prepare as we did against Inter Milan and Rangers and all the other big games.”
