Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Eder Militao has sustained a thigh muscle injury while on international duty with Brazil.

The 26-year-old withdrew from the Brazil squad and returned to Spain after suffering the problem in training.

Militao missed most of last season after damaging an anterior cruciate ligament and only returned to full fitness in March.

Militao joins a number of other players in Madrid’s treatment room, including Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, Jude Bellingham and David Alaba, while Aurelien Tchouameni and Ferland Mendy also withdrew from international duty with France through injury.

Real Madrid return to LaLiga action with a trip to Real Sociedad next week and begin their Champions League campaign against Stuttgart a few days later, games which Militao is expected to miss.

A club statement read: “Following the tests carried out today (Sunday) on our player Eder Militao by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury due to overload in the rectus femoris of his right leg.”
