Fabio Silva scored the winner as Las Palmas stunned LaLiga leaders Barcelona with a 2-1 victory at the Olympic Stadium.
Just six minutes after Raphinha had cancelled out Sandro’s 49th-minute strike for the visitors, Silva applied the finish that a superb pass from Javi Munoz deserved as Barca lost at home in the league for the first time this season, and made it three league games without a win.
The result means that Real Madrid have the opportunity to move to within one point of the summit when they host Getafe on Sunday, while Las Palmas were rewarded for a positive display with a win that moves them five points clear of the bottom three.
Las Palmas had never looked like a side intimidated by a visit to the league leaders and they were first to threaten when Sandro brilliantly span away from Inigo Martinez and burst into the box, but when he pulled the ball back it struck Jose Campana and bounced to safety.
Barcelona lost Alejandro Balde to injury after he collided with Sandro, replaced by Gerard Martin, before the hosts belatedly began to build some pressure, although they would not create a clear chance until just before the break.
Pedri’s shot was well saved in the 44th minute and Raphinha looked like a man who knew the offside flag was coming when he poked home on the rebound.
Moments later Gavi’s pass found the run of Raphinha, who cut inside but then fired his shot off the top of the crossbar.
Seeking a spark, Barca coach Hansi Flick brought on Lamine Yamal, back from an ankle injury, at the break, replacing Pablo Torre, but it was Las Palmas who stunned the Olympic Stadium four minutes after the restart.
From a short goal-kick, four passes cut straight through Barcelona, with a lovely ball from Kirian Rodriguez allowing Sandro to run through on goal and arrow a shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Flick again turned to his bench, sending on Ferran Torres, Frenkie de Jong and Hector Fort in a triple change.
Yamal and Torres both soon threatened as Barca turned up the heat, and that pressure paid off as Raphinha drilled home the equaliser just after the hour, picking up the ball on the edge of the area and spotting a gap in the defence to beat Jasper Cillessen low to his left.
But parity lasted only five minutes before Las Palmas did it again. Munoz appeared stuck out on the wing, facing his own goal, but out of nowhere sent a superb pass forward into the path of Silva, and the on-loan Wolves forward did the rest.
Yamal and Pedri had chances to level before Raphinha saw a free-kick tipped over, but Barca fell to a defeat.
