Victor Boniface struck three minutes into stoppage time to earn Bayer Leverkusen a dramatic 4-3 Bundesliga victory over Wolfsburg at BayArena.

Nordi Mukiele put the ball into his own net early on but Leverkusen turned the game around with goals from Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah.

But quickfire strikes from Sebastiaan Bornauw and Mattias Svanberg sent the visitors into the break ahead.

Piero Hincapie headed Leverkusen level and Yannick Gerhardt was sent off before Boniface latched onto Exequiel Palacios’ mishit shot to fire into the bottom left-hand corner of the net and win it.

Wolfsburg were ahead with only five minutes on the clock as a dangerous-looking cross from the right was turned into his own net by Mukiele.

But the home side drew level in the 14th minute when Granit Xhaka picked out Wirtz on the edge of the box and his first time shot found the bottom corner for his sixth goal of the season.

Bayer then went ahead after 32 minutes when Tah was left alone at the back post and given all the time in the world to pick his spot and head home Alex Grimaldo’s corner.

It was a corner again that brought the equaliser when Bornauw got in front of his marker at the near post to nod home Jakub Kaminski’s delivery.

The visitors went into the break 3-2 up after Svanberg waltzed his way forward and drilled home from 20 yards.

The set-piece again delivered three minutes after the interval when another superb delivery from an Aleix Garcia corner was met by a fine header from Hincapie to again level things up.

Gerhardt was sent off for a second booking three minutes from the end before Boniface struck to secure the last-gasp victory.
