Celtic’s appointment of Elena Sadiku was a historic move from the club as she became their first ever female head coach.

The 30-year-old Swede replaced Fran Alonso after he left to take up a similar role at MLS side Houston Dash.

Here PLZ Soccer takes a look at the Swedish manager’s career so far:

As a player she starred for LdB Malmo, Kristianstad and Eskilstuna United.

She spent her entire career in her homeland before being forced into early retirement due to injury.

Before arriving at Celtic she held a position at the Hammarby Academy. She then joined Chinese Super League club Beijing BG Phoenix.

She later returned to a role at the Rosengard Academy, before stepping up to the Women’s first team coaching staff.

Her first senior coaching role was at Danish side Fortuna Hjorring, where she led the club to the Quarter-Finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. A spell at Swedish side Eskilstuna United followed.

A move to WSL side Everton preceded her move to Celtic. She penned a two-and-a-half year deal with the Hoops in January.
