Hearts advance to the next stage of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup after a narrow victory over The Spartans in Edinburgh today

Kenneth Vargas gave the visitors the lead on the 13th minute with a header. Unsurprisingly the Jambos were the dominant side in the opening half forcing The Spartans keeper, Blair Carswell to stay on high alert at all times.

The hosts did have a big chance in the opening half through Callum Booth, the defender sent his effort straight at the goal mouth giving Hearts keeper Craig Gordon to spring into action and put the ball over te bar.

There was no sign of feeling inferior to the Gorgie side from Douglas Samual’s team, taking chances and getting physical with a team from the top flight didn’t seem to be an issue for The Spartans.

The equaliser finally came in the second half. After a messy build up, a moment of magic happened for the hosts as James Craigan caught the ball perfectly on his right foot sending it straight into the top corner beyond Craig Gordon, meanwhile the fans and his sides technical area where in euphoria.

As the full time whistle crept closer it was evident that Hearts were feeling the heat. Carswell denied Alex Cochraine from close ranger keeping everyone of the edge of their seat. In added time it was Frankie Kent who shone through for the Tynecastle side with as he headed in the winner from Cochraines free kick on the added time to seal their place in the next round.
