Nick Montgomery insists he understands Hibs fans’ reaction after a last minute Shane Blaney goal for Motherwell cost them a top six place.

The 3000 or so in the travelling support made their feelings clear at full time after they had surrendered the lead just 20 seconds earlier and Montgomery said he fully empathises:

“A game you should win, you draw with 20 seconds to go and it cost us a spot in the top six, of course I understand their frustration” he said.

With Dundee only managing a point at Pittodrie, Myziane Moalida’s 65th minute penalty looked to have given Hibs a huge advantage in the race for sixth place.

However defender Blaney’s 92nd minute stunner condemned the Easter Road outfit to a bottom half finish.

Montgomery added: “I don’t think the fans deserved some of the stuff that’s happened to us this season. I thought they came today and they got behind us like they always do.

“With 20 seconds to go it would’ve been completely different, if we see that game out it would’ve been fantastic scenes at the end.”
