Rangers have secured their place in the Viaplay Cup Final after netting three goals in 13 minutes against Hearts at Hampden Park.

If it wasn’t for Zander Clark’s quick reactions in the Hearts goal this game could have been done and dusted by half time with Danilo, Todd Cantwell and Abdallah Sima all having clear chances to give Rangers the lead.

Just three minutes into the second half and Rangers had the opener when Danilo was brought down in the box by the Hearts keeper. The Glasgow side were awarded a penalty which was converted by skipper James Tavernier.

Hearts struggled to pose a threat on Rangers in the opening half, their closest chance came from Alex Cochrane’s corner where Jack Butland was able to keep Frankie Kent’s header from levelling the score line.

Rangers got their second through Scott Wright, who replaced Todd Cantwell at the break. Danilo’s pass to the winger from the middle of the park allowed Wright to drive the ball into the far corner to double his side’s lead.

Tavernier’s then unleashed a stunning free kick from just outside the penalty box, which hit the top corner and left Hearts with a mountain to climb as the Englishman notched his second of the afternoon.

Stephen Kingsley was then initially shown a second yellow after Nick Walsh judged the defender to have dived in the penalty area. Although after a quick VAR check the foul on Kingsley was deemed a penalty for the Gorgie side – which Lawrence Shankland was able to put past Jack Butland.

Despite the late lift for the Edinburgh side it’s Rangers who advance to the final to face Aberdeen at Hampden next Month.
